Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

Title: Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
Author: Mary Roach
Format: Paperback
Genre: Non-fiction
Series: -
Date read: April 2011
Verdict: 7 out of 10

Comments: Definitely not suitable for those with a weak stomach, Mary Roach's Stiff describes various ends that have befallen donated cadavers the world over. The graphic descriptions of decomposition, cremation, organ donation, tissue digestion and the latest "organic" burials (in which a human body effectively becomes compost) will make you reconsider your own plans for when you depart! A well-written, well-researched book that provides food for thought and a fascinating insight into a more practical "afterlife".
