Title: Franny and Zooey
Author: J.D.Salinger
Format: Kindle
Genre: Fiction/Modern Classic
Series: -
Date read: April 2011
Verdict: 8 out of 10
Comments: I really enjoyed this. It was a bit of a slow starter but from about 45 pages in I was hooked. I love Salinger's drip-feeding descriptions of the rooms of the house, and his uncanny knack of getting under the skin of relationships between siblings (similar to Catcher in the Rye, which I love). The contrast between the religious/philosophical musings of the characters and the mundanity of the situations they're in works brilliantly; Franny having the meal with her boyfriend, Zooey in the bath, Franny searching the cat for fleas. Beautifully written and fascinating.
