Date read: April 2011
Verdict: 8 out of 10
Comments: This well-written and detailed account of the morning of 9/11 gives an insight into the ordeal of thousands of people trapped in the World Trade Center towers with no means of escape. This is a very factual book, full of figures and times with little room for sentiment, but it gets across its point very acutely. People died unnecessarily, whether they were firemen or civilians, because of a lack of communication between emergency services and vital information such as the locations of safe, unblocked stairways not being shared because there was no way to do so. If you're looking for detailed backstories into the lives of the dead, you won't find it here, but there is tragedy to be found in the minutiae.
