Lost Voices from the "Titanic"

Title: Lost Voices from the "Titanic": The Definitive Oral History
Author: Nick Barratt
Format: Hardback
Genre: Non-fiction/historical
Series: -
Date read: May 2011
Verdict: 5 out of 10

Comments: Parts of this were fascinating (the letters and interviews from passengers and crew, and some of the official inquiry findings). The endless detail on the building of the ship, its dimensions, and various other dull facts, not so much. The author had an irritating style, and it was preferable when he only provided a few lines of linking narrative between letters and reports. I found his introduction faintly patronising and overly descriptive. The real interest lay in eyewitness accounts and the tragic tales of loss, which were emotive enough that they didn't need the constant explanations from Mr Barratt. I hope to read a better Titanic history than this at some point.
